Lifeboat day on St. Michael's Mount on Sunday 31st July.
St.Michael's Mount having once had a 'D-Class' Inshore lifeboat are hosting what is hoped will be the first of many lifeboat days.
We will be welcoming the Ivan Ellen into the Island harbour at 2pm, giving you the opportunity to get up close with the magnificent vessel. The Severn Class All weather lifeboat will be joined by Penlee’s in-shore lifeboat, the Paul Alexander, an Atlantic 75 B-Class lifeboat.
On the Island, the lifeboat theme continues. At our new Visitor Centre located in the Barge House, a film will be looped throughout the day displaying the Lifeboat in action. As well as this, there will be a display of pictures and news articles of the lifeboat that existed on the Island between 1990 – 2001. Bob Hunt, our Island Guide will be bringing stories of our lifeboat on the Island to life as he talks about his time as an Island lifeboat crew member.
Also in attendance will be Humphrey, the Penlee Lifeboat’s mannequin. Humphrey will be dressed in full crew uniform so you can get a feel for what crew members wear, as well as how much it costs the RNLI to kit out personnel. Visitors to the Island will receive an RNLI Sea Safety Bag to give guidance about safety on the water.
On the mainland, the Godolphin Arms will be hosting a pop up shop and serving cream teas as well as strawberries and cream, with all proceeds going to the Penlee Lifeboat Station Appeal – the St Aubyn Estates Company Charity.
The Marazion Carnival will also be taking place on this day, so the historic market town is set to be bustling. The day is set to be both educational and entertaining and we are excited to be working with a charity that is so strongly linked to the Island.
Activities begin on the island at 2pm and finish at about 5.30pm.
Big thank you to St.Aubyn Estates for putting this event on.
