Porthleven 40th Lifeboat Day. In aid of the Penlee Station Appeal. Fun for all the family, loads to see and do.

All starting on Sat (8th Aug) in the evening, when the 'Black Rock Jazz Band' will be in the 'Harbour head Marquee' - 7.30pm, bar open from 5pm (Serving Helston's finest Spingo ales).

On Sunday 9th August in and around Porthleven Harbour, there will be exhibitions, stalls, model boat displays, Penlee memorabilia and Heritage talks.

The Cornish Lugger 'Happy Return' will be moored alongside during the day and will be doing a sailing demonstration in the outer harbour at around 11:00am. At 3:00pm, on her 110th birthday, 'Happy Return' will be rededicated just a few yards from where she was built over a century ago.

We are also thrilled to announce that 771 Naval Air Squadron will be joining the Penlee Lifeboat for a rescue demonstration. This promises to be a poignant moment as the squadron will be disbanded later this year. It will be the last time to see Rescue 193 at Porthleven Lifeboat Day.

This years lifeboat day is shaping up to be quite an emotional occasion and another good reason to make your way to Porthleven Lifeboat Day on Sunday 9th August - we hope to see you there!

Sun 16th Aug - Mousehole Lifeboat Day & Annual Service

Mousehole will be awash with visitors enjoying the stalls and BBQ on the old Quay. The Lifeboats will make an appearence during the afternoon and then leave Mousehole to return once again in the early evening for the Annual Blessing service of the Boats and the Crew.

Mousehole is a small village and parking is limited, so why not park in Newlyn and walk to Mousehole. Between 10am and noon the Old Penlee Lifeboat slip will be open to visitors, which if you are walking gives you an ideal chance to pop in and absorb the heritage before you walk on and enjoy the stalls, BBQ, games and fun in Mousehole. A day truly not to be missed, fun for all the family and supporting the Penlee Lifeboat.

Sun 31st July -  Lifeboat day on St. Michael's Mount

Lifeboat day on St. Michael's Mount on Sunday 31st July.

St.Michael's Mount having once had a 'D-Class' Inshore lifeboat are hosting what is hoped will be the first of many lifeboat days.

We will be welcoming the Ivan Ellen into the Island harbour at 2pm, giving you the opportunity to get up close with the magnificent vessel. The Severn Class All weather lifeboat will be joined by Penlee’s in-shore lifeboat, the Paul Alexander, an Atlantic 75 B-Class lifeboat.

On the Island, the lifeboat theme continues. At our new Visitor Centre located in the Barge House, a film will be looped throughout the day displaying the Lifeboat in action. As well as this, there will be a display of pictures and news articles of the lifeboat that existed on the Island between 1990 – 2001. Bob Hunt, our Island Guide will be bringing stories of our lifeboat on the Island to life as he talks about his time as an Island lifeboat crew member.

Also in attendance will be Humphrey, the Penlee Lifeboat’s mannequin. Humphrey will be dressed in full crew uniform so you can get a feel for what crew members wear, as well as how much it costs the RNLI to kit out personnel. Visitors to the Island will receive an RNLI Sea Safety Bag to give guidance about safety on the water.

On the mainland, the Godolphin Arms will be hosting a pop up shop and serving cream teas as well as strawberries and cream, with all proceeds going to the Penlee Lifeboat Station Appeal – the St Aubyn Estates Company Charity.

The Marazion Carnival will also be taking place on this day, so the historic market town is set to be bustling. The day is set to be both educational and entertaining and we are excited to be working with a charity that is so strongly linked to the Island.

Activities begin on the island at 2pm and finish at about 5.30pm.

Big thank you to St.Aubyn Estates for putting this event on.
